Southern Cross Figurehead.
The figurehead is from the Steam Yacht Southern Cross , built Wallsend on Tyne 1903. It is in the form of St Barnabas, the first missionary. The Steam Yacht was used by the Melanesian Mission in the South Pacific Islands. In 1950 the figurehead was mounted outside the entrance to the chapel in Philomel.
