My recollection of the first trip wasn't so good. We set out on Saturday, and supper time came, and the Coxswain and his tanky came through and they set the food on the table, bread... cheese... and two or three jars of piccalilli, and our meal was to be cheese and pickles. I thought to myself, God blimey, if this is the way they feed you in the Navy".
