The early years saw the Royal Navy intricately involved in the development of young New Zealand. Fraught with conflict and change, the Royal Navy acted as an integral part of the establishment of British sovereignty over this period. However as New Zealand continued to grow, so too did her role on the international stage with her participating in both World Wars. Her intentions to champion causes for the weak and protect her own has seen participation in many levels – from active war service to protecting the homefront.
