The Navy Museum is delighted to offer you its education services - whether you are a student, teacher, community group leader, an interested member of the public or serving in the Navy, we have a whole variety of interesting and inspiring resources waiting for you to access. Currently we are developing our whole range of services and this web site will be continuously updated with information on our programmes, events, education resource materials and more. We are also are happy to tailor design education sessions, packs and experiences to meet your specific education needs. Should our existing education programmes not sufficiently cover your requirements.
You may be studying a course, teaching or have an interest in New Zealand Defence history, naval history, social & cultural history; perhaps you are undertaking an art work, media film project or drama project. We can work together to design a creative package for you or your group. As services are being developed, it would be fantastic to have your requests and input into what you need from us, so please contact us with any ideas or queries.
Why should I come to the museum ?
As we are the official Royal New Zealand Navy Museum, we have specialist staff accompanied by an in-depth and wide ranging collection of naval objects & instruments, weapons, oral histories, costumes, books, photos, film footage and more. These are the genuine articles! There is nothing like seeing history in your hands or being able to find a story, perhaps long forgotten and bringing it back to life.
The history that is displayed and collected here is your history. It belongs to New Zealand and is a part of who we were, who we are today and how other countries and nations see us. We want to help you connect to that history and have fun exploring the many stories that have shaped, and continue to shape New Zealand's naval history.
