Leather bound bible belonging to E.E. Corner

E.E. Corner joined the Royal Navy in 1910 and was transferred to the Royal New Zealand Navy on 4 August 1914, the day that NZ entered WWI.  His first posting was to HMS PHILOMEL, which joined part of the ocean escort for the New Zealand force occupying German Samoa.  The ship then sailed for the Middle East via Singapore.

Inside the bible, Corner has recorded the movements, war actions and ports of call of HMS PHILOMEL, as well as listing the names of those that died in action on the ship during the period 1915 -16.  Handwritten, inside the back cover, is his last will and testament.
