Scuttle from HMNZS MOA.
Brass scuttle.

Scuttle and deadlight removed from the wreck of HMNZS MOA, which was sunk by Japanese bombers on 7th April 1943.  HMNZS MOA was refuelling in Tulagi Harbour, Solomon Islands, when a Japanese air armada attacked.  HMNZS MOA was hit by two 200kg bombs, one passing through the Commanding Officer's cabin and the other through the boiler room.  It took only 3 and a half minutes to sink with the loss of five crew.  HMNZS MOA's scuttle was recovered by the HMNZS TARANAKI diving team in 1975.
