Diving suit.

The suit is made from 3 layers of rubberised twill reinforced on the knees and elbows.  Never used.  Maker: Sieve Gorman, England.  Dating from c1840 - 1960.

This was the primary method of diving in the RNZN until the early 1960s when it was taken out of service in 1970.  The last major task of this type of equipment was under the Roxborough Dam 160 feet in 1960.

Helmet - made of tinned copper and brass weighs: 20kg

Back and front weights: 18.14 kg each

Boots - leather with wooden soles, with lead soles attached with brass toecaps weights: 8 kg

Total weight: 84 kg

Depth limitation is 180 feet (55 metres).  With any greater depth the CO2 build-up in the helmet became dangerous.
